No Smartwatch for IWC
The early success of the Apple Watch has some watchmakers suck as TAG Heuer and Swatch planning to launch their own wearable devices but one Swiss brand that will not be entering the field is IWC. In an interview with Bloomberg, IWC CEO George Kern stated emphatically that the company will not be producing a smartwatch in the near future.
Kern’s main reason for this decision is his belief that the devices, even the Apple Watch, will be competing for the lower-end market rather than in IWC’s luxury class. Kern is not totally against the idea of smartwatches since they can get the younger generation back into wearing watches—and eventually moving up to luxury brands like IWC. He makes a good point since Apple is certain to sell millions more units of the watches selling for $350 than the Edition models going for $10,000 and up.
Meanwhile, IWC is doing what the company does so well—releasing fine luxury watches. The latest covetable timepieces from the brand are a pair of Ingenieur models in 18-karat red gold. The limited edition Ingenieur Constant-Force Tourbillon features a patented constant-force mechanism housed in the tourbillon along with a ceramic case, black dial, black alligator strap and 18-karat red gold pin buckle. Just 50 pieces of this model will be made.
The Ingenieur Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month features a perpetual calendar, digital date display and leap year indicator encased in 18-karat red gold and titanium aluminide. This model, which will be made in only 100 pieces, has a black dial with sapphire-glass inlays, black rubber strap with alligator inlay and titanium pin buckle.
These Swiss-made luxury beauties are just what the kids who depend on their smartphones for the time and practically everything else should aspire to when they grow up and make their first million.
